THE PART YOU CAN TOTALLY SKIP:

Hey, guys, or nobody, to be precise, since I never advertised this blog! So, hey, guess who remembered she had a blog? ^ w ^

Well, I didn't really remember, I tried to sign in for adsense and I needed a site, and since all my other forum domains expired and thus left me with nothing, this was the only site I had, and I was really surprised to possess it! Funny when things might come into use.

Anyway, I will try to be more active here from now on, as I'm still aiming to improve as a writer, and I'm too worried about copyright to really post my stories. And it's fun writing articles, you get to share your opinions and advertise things you like and feel like it really matters, even if you just made a blog and never promoted it, like my lazy bum. :3

THE PART THAT'S ACTUAL ARTICLE:

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this topic, and I would have immediately written this if only I *khm* had a blog *khm*. Now it's been a while since I've watched it, and I don't have time to rewatch, but I still can't bring myself to put it off anymore!

Now, if it wasn't pretty much obvious, I'll spell it out: SPOILER ALERT. Although I can't imagine you weren't spoiled about it by now. Especially if that now is distant future when somebody actually sees this.

Back to the point (from which I'm talented to drift off), this epic series ends in a double episode which I absolutely loved and was really shocked to find no one agreeing with me. When I saw that last scene, of course, I was put off too and didn't know how I felt about it, but it didn't ruin the whole series for me.

What most of the people complain about - apart of the ending being what it is, which is completely authors choice in my opinion - is how it was paced, how it was hinted against and how pointless it made the last season.

As for the pacing, I will completely agree. It was pretty fast, and I would probably expand the last 2 episodes into a few more and shorten the 9th season full of filler episodes, anyway. Well, it's just a sitcom, so you'd expect it to be a complete filler series, but this last season seemed really dragged out. I mean, I had a feeling it lasted more hours than the number of hours it was about. And yet, they've managed to pile up so many important things in 40 minutes in the end.

However, that made the episode really emotional, and goes well with the fact that the series is called How I Met Your Mother, meaning most of the things from this episode are just things we got extra. We shouldn't know what happens after, but they've decided to show us, and it's already tabooish, so expanding it even more would kind of go against the title of the series.

As for hinting against this, by making Ted so damn painfully move on from Robin, by making the mother so awesome (and God did I grow to love Cristin Milioti, hope she becomes real famous and all n w n ) and making the wedding of Barney and Robin an entire season. But I still think the point of this ending, although I know it wasn't (they've filmed it years ago, and had no choice but to put it in, since the kids grew older), was to show how unpredictable life is, how difficult it might be, but how important it actually is to pick yourself up and move on. I never thought they would show that Ted will be happier or better off with Robin, I thought it will be nothing compared to Tracy, I was partially pitying them in the moment, but I knew that moment was so true and lifelike, something real people would do, something natural. You'd move on eventually, and you'd try to be happy some other way. We strive for happiness and no matter the situation, we will want to find it, even if we think it was buried with someone beloved.

I'd make same argument for the pointlessness of the last season. Love is worth it. Exactly like they've said it, "This wasn't a failed marriage, this was a successful marriage that happened to last only 3 years." Yeah, it was quite a bit forced, but they've made it as good as it could logically be in one episode. Not to mention the perfection of the way Robin grew out of the group.

Not to mention other amazing stuff it offered.

The part when Tracy and Ted meet was so beautifully scripted. Yeah, it was kind of cheesy, and I'm not really a cheesy person usually, but after you've been sticking to the series for 9 years you'll find it very emotional and moving. It was above my expectations. And their other interaction, like when she told him she was pregnant! I just love that girl, both the character and the actress. In a non-lesbian way. Mostly. Kidding, I'm straight, but she's pretty much the only girl-crush I've ever developed. Back to me not being hormonal.

Also, the way Ted told of her death was perfect. That's another quote I really love! There has also been a scene of her funeral, but they've cut it. I'm not sure why. I know many fans complained about this, and I'd kind of like to see it too, although I liked it without it too. They said it was the most heartbreaking moment of the episode, perhaps they didn't want to get a sitcom that serious, but I totally want my heart shattered to bits by that sitcom!

And the moment that was most touching for me was Barney's ending. That's... just... how Barney ends. There's no alternative. That's who he is, that's the only thing Barney would be truly committed to, and it's done beautifully, not only the script, but also Neil's acting. It was a really difficult scene to do, I imagine, and he did it perfectly! Kudos for this part, really. A lot of people argued that the mother of his child should have been shown and that it should have been shown that he had changed - but that's the thing, he hasn't. The mother is unimportant, she was just girl number 31, as he named her, she wasn't a part of his change. He bonded with the child, and that's what changed him. The most important girl in his life wasn't the mother of his child, but his daughter and they did very well to emphasize that.

Whichever the case, I'd still really like to see the alternative ending from the DVD version, out of curiosity and also to see if it can really surpass this one.

I hope at least someone will agree with me, and I'm always up for any kind of argument you can put up, as long it's not offensive. That's another thing about me, I love to argue! Not fight, but argue. Even when I'm wrong. I don't know, it's almost like a sport to me.

Ah, my attention span, I was finishing the article. Hope you liked it, and even if you don't agree I hope I helped you see another point of view and understand it better!
